How You Can Support the Lakeshore Humane Society

There are a number of ways to support the work of the Lakeshore Humane Society. We always need volunteers to help screen phone calls, provide foster care, work at fund raising events, provide daily care for the animals and provide transportation, among many others.

Unfortunately most of the animals that make their way to us are in poor health, requiring visits to the veterinarian, medications and sometimes, surgical procedures. These costs are in addition to the money we must spend getting an already healthy animal ready for adoption. The cost to prepare a cat pr kitten for adoption is approximately $100, including leukemia testing, leukemia/distemper shot and booster, worming, flea treatments and altering. Our cost to prepare a dog or puppy for adoption is higher, sometimes as much as $200.

We are a non-profit, all volunteer organization. The money we spend comes entirely from donations, fund raising activities and grants. All of the funds handled through our organization are used for animals in our immediate area. Our group is a 503C non-profit organization. All donations are fully tax deductable.

How Can You Help?

• Sponsor an animal. Your donation will assist in placing an animal for adoption.
• Purchase LSHS Merchandise. Call for sizes and availability. You can make your purchase on line and we will mail your selection.
• Make a Donation of any amount.
• Donate needed items (sheets, towels, bleach, cleaning solutions, paper towels, blankets and detergent are always in short supply).
• Memorial donations are a meaningful way to remember and honor a loved one. All memorial donations will be acknowledged with a handwritten thank you note to the family of the loved one.
• Sponsor and Adoption Day Ad for only $25.00. Your ad can be a simple sponsorship, a memorial or an honorarium.
• Donations and bequests can also be made through The Northern Chautauqua Community Foundation Verona Barker Fund. This restricted fund was established with money bequested to the Lakeshore Humane Society by the late Verona Barker. This fund provides interest income for our organization.
